Sensor Repair &
Won’t-Close Fixes
Garage door won’t close, or the light blinks and it reverses? It’s usually the safety sensors. TyGrig realigns and repairs garage door sensors same-day across Chattanooga, Ooltewah, and Cleveland, TN.
Closed And
Secure Again.
If your garage door starts to close then reverses, or the opener light flashes and it won’t go down at all, the photo-eye safety sensors near the floor are the usual culprit — knocked out of alignment, dirty, blocked, or wired loose. TyGrig repairs and realigns garage door sensors across the Chattanooga, TN area, usually the same day, and checks the opener settings while we’re at it.
The two little sensors at the bottom of each track have to “see” each other for the door to close. Bump one with a trash can, let a cobweb or sunbeam cross the beam, or knock a wire loose, and the opener refuses to close as a safety feature. We realign them, clean the lenses, fix or replace bad sensors and wiring, and set the travel and force so the door closes smoothly and stays closed.
If the sensors check out, a won’t-close door can also be a binding track, a worn roller, or an opener limit setting — we test all of it so you’re not left guessing. Most sensor repairs are quick and a single visit, at one honest price up front.

How to Realign Garage Door Safety Sensors
A garage door that reverses or won’t close is usually a misaligned photo-eye sensor — and it’s often a two-minute fix you can try yourself before calling. Here’s the safe way to check.
Cut the power
Unplug the opener or switch off its breaker so the door can’t move while you work near the sensors.
Clean both photo-eyes
Wipe the small lens on each sensor near the bottom of the tracks with a soft, dry cloth. Cobwebs, dust, or even a stray sunbeam can block the beam and stop the door from closing.
Check the indicator lights
One sensor sends a beam, the other receives it. Both little LEDs should glow steady. A blinking or dark LED means they’re misaligned or a wire is loose.
Loosen and level the sensors
Loosen each sensor’s wing nut and gently tilt it until both LEDs glow solid. The two sensors must point straight at each other at exactly the same height.
Tighten, restore power, and test
Snug the wing nuts, turn the power back on, and run the door. If it still reverses, the problem is wiring, a failed sensor, or an opener setting — call TyGrig at (423) 225-1844 and we’ll fix it the same day.
